INSTALLING THE CYGNUS RELEASE "What's all this then?" ----------------------- Release name: lsi-970730 Binary releases: sparc-sun-solaris2-x-mips-lsi-elf.tar.Z sparc-sun-sunos4.1-x-mips-lsi-elf.tar.Z i386-cygwin32-x-mips-lsi-elf.zip Source releases: src.tar.Z Other files: README (this file) doc.zip infozip.exe unzip.exe Instructions for installing these releases are described below. Installing the Win32 Release from a zip Archive ----------------------------------------------- Create a temporary directory, TMPDIR, for storing the zip archives and do the following to install the release: mkdir C:\CYGNUS (or some other location of your choosing) C: cd CYGNUS unzip \TMPDIR\ZIPFILE.zip where "ZIPFILE.zip" is the zip archive you wish to install. The zip archive can be extracted with many freely available "unzip" utlities. There are currently some problems using PKUNZIP due to the directory structure and long filenames used. We've included the Info-ZIP tools in the event that you do not have a non-PKUNZIP tool. Please read "Installing the Info-ZIP Tools" below for installation instructions. Assuming the release is installed in C:\CYGNUS, you must set GCC_EXEC_PREFIX to: C:\CYGNUS\RELEASE\H-i386-cygwin32\lib\gcc-lib\ and add the following to your PATH: C:\CYGNUS\RELEASE\H-i386-cygwin32\bin Where "RELEASE" is the release installed. The trailing "\" in GCC_EXEC_PREFIX is necessary. Installing the UNIX Binary Release from a Tarball ------------------------------------------------- Create a temporary directory for storing the tarballs, extracting the Install script and storing any output logs. For thie binary release archive perform the following steps: uncompress < TARBALL | tar xpf - Install ./Install --tape=TARBALL --installdir=INSTALLDIR binaries Where "TARBALL" is the name of the binary archive and "INSTALLDIR" is the location you wish to install the binaries. If you plan to install in /usr/cygnus, you may omit the --installdir option. Installing the Source Tarball on a UNIX System ----------------------------------------------- Change to the directory where you would like to store the source and run: uncompress < src.tar.Z | tar xpf - This will create a "src" subdirectory containing all the sources used to build this release. Installing the Documentation zip File on UNIX --------------------------------------------- Change to the directory where you would like to store the documentation and run: unzip /path/to/cdrom/doc.tar.Z | tar xpf - This will create a "doc" subdirectory containing all the documentation in HTML format. Installing the Documentation zip File on Windows ------------------------------------------------ Change to the directory where you would like to store the documentation and run: unzip D:\doc.zip where "D:" is the drive letter corresponding to your CDROM drive. This will create a "doc" subdirectory containing all the documentation in HTML format. Installing the Info-ZIP Tools ---------------------------- We have provided both the entire Info-ZIP suite of tools and the unzip utility along with the Cygnus release. The file "infozip.exe" is a self-extracting archive which will create a subdirectory named "infozip" containing the tools and documentation. There is also "unzip.exe" which is the unzip program in those tools. We recommend you download the entire tool suite and read the documentation before using the tools. These tools are freeware. For more information on the Info-ZIP project, go to: http://www.cdrom.com/pub/infozip/Info-ZIP.html The Fine Print -------------- This ftp'able archive will be deleted when you have received your official release media or 30 Jun 1997, whichever is later. If you have problems installing or running anything from this release, please feel free to call Angela Thomas at +1 408 542 9666 or send email to [email protected]. Thanks! AMT 18 Jun 1997
