If you've ever wanted to find something in the manuals, but never had much luck ... you might want to try out a package that I've been using for a while. gman is a manual browser that uses inverted keyword indexes to assist in searching and browsing. If you have IRIX 3.3.?, ftp gman.tar.Z using binary mode. If you have IRIX 4.0.1, ftp gman-4.0.1.tar.Z using binary mode. If you have 4.0.5, ftp gman-4.0.5.tar. Once you've got the package on your machine, use uncompress and tar to extract the information. For example, % cd /usr/tmp % mkdir gman % cd gman % ftp sgi.com binary cd sgi/gman get gman-4.0.5.tar.Z quit % zcat gman-4.0.5.tar.Z | tar xovf - Then look at the file README. Note that this is a binary-only distribution right now. gman.tar.Z should work on any 4D machine running IRIX 3.3. gman-4.0.1.tar.Z should work on any 4D machine running IRIX 4.0.1. gman-4.0.5.tar.Z should work on any 4D machine running IRIX 4.0.5. --sam This software is provided without support and without any obligation on the part of Silicon Graphics, Inc. to assist in its use, correction, modification or enhancement.
